Going tapas in Madrid

Going tapas in Madrid

Any district or place in Madrid is good for going tapas. It is a city with many bars, pubs, inns, taverns… the city has the original foods caused by the logistics of the country, concentrating all products from Spain in its large market. The people said to be the best fishing port of Spain to taste fresh seafood and fish of superb quality, and the same about other products: meats, fruits, vegetables…

  • In Puerta del Sol area (Madrid center), close to the “El Corte Inglés” building in Preciados street there is a historic tavern called “Casa Labra”. The specialty is cod croquettes and battered cod, to accompany the “cañas” of beer.

  • Between Puerta del Sol and Plaza Santa Ana, there are a few bars with the name “Las Bravas”, where you can taste some delicious “patatas bravas”, with a special spicy sauce, and the “tortilla brava”, omelet with the same sauce.

  • In this area is also “La Casa del Abuelo”, another famous bar. The Plaza Santa Ana has a lot of bars with great atmosphere.

  • Nearby is Huertas street, with traditional bars of all kinds. Where it ends this street there are some tavernas, most notably “La Dolores”, opposite the Church “Cristo de Medinaceli” It´s one of the most popular taverns of Madrid.

  • The “Plaza Mayor” is very close to the previous route. Stands out the peculiarity of its historic inns and taverns, especially near the Arch of “Cuchilleros”.

  • “Madrid de los Austrias” is a notable area about bars and restaurants. We recommend going wines route in Cava Baja Street and around, with a lot of small taverns, traditionals and moderns, in the district of La Latina.

  • Away from this areas and further north is Chamberí district, which highlights the Ponzano Street, especially in the area bounded between the García de Paredes Street and Rios Rosas Street. There is a great atmosphere and good quality of tapas. We recommend in the area the bar Fide, it´s a temple about very high-quality seafood.

  • Another area highlighted in tapas is the Madrid East, close to Retiro park, with a wide range of classic and vanguard taverns accompanied by a innovative cuisine, marked by landing several renowned chefs, who now have their own independent business. On the Menorca street is La Catapa, with a great seasonal cuisine.

And… at night, or for an early breakfast, included for a cold or balmy evening, we recommend a traditional “Chocolate con churros”. Near Plaza Mayor is the centenary “chocolatería San Ginés”.
