All you should know about Tequila

All you should know about Tequila

Tequila is one of the more popular drinks among locals and tourists alike in Mexico. Although it did not originate in the city, it remains a best-seller in the city.

Below are some of the things that you might want to learn about this tequila.

Tequila has 2 basic types and 4 classifications.

/>Alcohol is made by fermenting sugars. Tequilas that derive all of their sugars from the agave plant may be labeled 100% Blue Agave. If the bottler stretches the agave sugars with some others, then the tequila is considered a mixto (49% of its sugar may come from non-agave sources).

The four classifications of tequila are as follows: joven, blanco, reposado, and añejo.

Joven is a tequila which is almost always a mixto (flavorings and colorings) may be added. This is widely known as gold tequila. This is the stuff people drink in college.

Blanco is referred to as white, silver, plata, or clear tequila. This type is bottled after double distillation with only a brief resting period, but no aging, and typically no exposure to wood. Depending on the production, blanco can be excellent tequila, or it can taste like paint thinner.

Reposado is a type of tequila that is placed in pine or white oak barrels for 2 to 12 months before bottling. This classification is usually a light straw color.

Finally, añejo refers to tequilas aged in wooden barrels for at least 12 months before bottling. It normally has darker color than reposado and often has lighter color than Joven Abocado.

Now that you have the basics and background basics covered, you are now ready to hit Mexico and take a booze.

Save enough to invite us out for a night of tequila!
