Barri Gotic, The Gothic Quarter in Barcelona

The Gothic Quarter in Barcelona

Barri Gotic, also known as the Gothic Quarter is one of the oldest attractions in the city of Barcelona. It is located by the famous stretch of Las Ramblas.

Barri Gotic presents a spicy combination of Medieval and Modern Times.
Showcasing building built as early as the 14th Century, walking along the line of classic structures may very well remind you of the movie “Blast from the Past.”

The Placa de Sant Jaume Square was the cradle of the government structures during its glory. The Town Hall which was built in the 15th Century is still solidly founded, as well as the Parlament de Catalunya and the glorious Palau de la Generalitat.
Who said that State and Church can’t go together? This statement is definitely not true with Barri Gotic.

In addition to the historical complex of government buildings, walking further down the stretch of Barri Gotic will lead visitors to the breathtaking churches in Europe. The one that particularly stands out is La Seu which has been renovated a few times since its creation in the 14th Century.

The Placa de la Seu is a good place to appreciate the fine church architecture. The grand and not so grand churches share the same plate in terms of aesthetic sophistication. A relative small church like the Iglesia de Santa Maria can still make get its fair amount of spectators.

A tour around Barri Gotic will bring nostalgic memories to the tourists just by looking at the stone walls and alleyways. Casa de l’Ardiaca holds bits and pieces of Roman amenities.Medieval and Modern alike, both are experienced in this interesting center. The new architecture blends wonderfully with some old influences. Once again, lovers of space and interior design will appreciate the fine touch of complexity in the stone railings and arches of the Bridge of Sighs.
Business, as usual, in Barri Gotic is fascinating.

The Els Quatre Gats that had served the great Pablo Picasso is still operational, ready to serve this new generation.

Speaking of Pablo Picasso, his fans can drop by El Museo Picasso to delight themselves with Picasso’s finest works.

Shopaholics can go visit the line of stores along Carrer de Ferran. The quality of their products is as consistent as ever. There is also a flea market located at the Palau Reial that is open every Sunday.

Barri Gotic knows how to pamper its guests. It offers hotels, restaurants, tapas bars, among others, for guests to chill and relax while looking around with their favorite drink on one hand and food on the other, while they watch excellent street performers.
